Testimonies

Emily (Austin, Texas ) I stayed with Señora Laura and Misky in Spring Semester 2005, when I was doing my Fulbright research in Peru. Señora Laura is a fantastic lady, warm, welcoming, and always ready to discuss politics and current events. She will help you to better understand Peru, Lima, and South America. Misky is the cutest dog ever - very well behaved and affectionate! As a single woman, I found it great to stay with another woman in my travels. This is safer than staying alone for any number of reasons, but more importantly it is also more fun. The location of the house is perfect - you can walk to everything: the centro of Miraflores, a big grocery store, a gym, a movie theater. The neighborhood is pretty and it is also very safe. You can see the Huaca from the roof of the house! Check out the Tratorria near the Huaca, it has delicious food for very cheap. I was able to use the kitchen and everything with no problem. Highly recommended! Enjoy your time in Lima!

Matt (Chicago, Illinois) I visited Lima to do a few months of dissertation research in 2006. One of the things I most cherish about my time in Lima is the warmth I experienced while living at the Lauras' household. The meals were incredible, the conversation engaging and the accomodations comfortable. But, most important of all, I always got more than a helping hand whenever I had a question about or problem with navigating a city and culture I was unfamiliar with. The location is also ideal, being both safe and relatively central, with a good gym, grocery and electronics stores within walking distance.

Shanna, (Washington DC) My experience staying with the Lauras (mom and daughter team) was just wonderful. It was a very cozy living atmosphere, and I felt at home right away. I'm so glad to have met and gotten to know them...Thank you so much! The neighborhood is also quite nice. Its centrally located, and very close to public transportation that will take you anywhere. Additionally, there are lots of cafes, restaurants and sites centrally located in Miraflores.

Andrea (California) My time in Lima (on the way to and from the Andes working on a documentary) was well spent in this cosy Miraflores home. I felt welcomed in by my hosts and they took very good care of me: they provided me with directions, suggested interesting things to do, and made the transition from the US to Peru almost seamless. I felt that I knew Lima from a native perspective. The neighborhood is very good and located near an excellent bodega (across the street) and between several good shopping areas that can provide everything you might want. Be sure to check out the views of the Huaca from the roof at sunset. I can't wait to pay another visit to my Peruvian family.
